GI Stasis
Not eating, no droppings, lethargy
- This is an EMERGENCY - requires immediate care
- Keep warm and comfortable
- Do not force feed
- Gentle belly massage if tolerated
- Seek immediate vet care
Warning Signs:
- No eating for 12+ hours
- Small/no droppings
- Hunched posture
- Grinding teeth
Heat Stroke
Lethargy, heavy breathing, hot ears
- Move to cool area immediately
- Dampen ears with room temp water
- Provide fresh water
- Do not submerge in water
- Immediate vet care needed
Prevention:
- Keep under 75°F
- Provide shade
- Fresh water always
- No direct sun
Fly Strike
Maggots in fur/skin, especially in warm weather
- EMERGENCY - can be fatal within hours
- Do not attempt to remove maggots
- Keep area dry
- Immediate vet care required
Prevention:
- Daily checks
- Clean habitat
- Check rear area
Common Issues
Broken Nail
Bleeding from nail, limping
- Apply styptic powder if available
- Clean area gently
- Monitor for infection
- Vet care if bleeding continues
Head Tilt
Head tilting to one side, loss of balance
- Keep in small, safe space
- Support with soft bedding
- Monitor eating/drinking
- Vet check needed - can indicate serious issues
